I was pleasantly surprised to find that the topper did not have a chemical smell associated with it when it first arrived (which most memory foam toppers do). In saying that though, you should still let the topper sit out for a few days before you start using it to air out properly.

72 hours (3 days) is a good amount of time to let the topper sit before you start using the product.

I should mention that the Big One Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper is a very thin topper. It has a thickness of 1.5 inches, compared to the usual 2 to 4 inches seen in most mattress topper.
