Today we will be doing a review on the IKEA TANANGER Mattress Topper!

If you have an uncomfortable mattress then investing in a high-quality mattress topper may be a good idea for you. Mattress toppers are great at increasing the comfort of your current mattress without having to go out and buy a brand new one.

So with that being said, if you are someone who is looking for a new mattress topper then you have come to the right place!

Everyone knows of IKEA products, but does everyone know about their mattress toppers? I am not so sure about that.

What I do know is that IKEA manufactures a variety of different mattress toppers under names such as TUSSÖY, TROMSDALEN, and KNAPSTAD. Do not worry though, we plan on reviewing them all at a later date!

The Mattress Topper

IKEA is a company that needs no introduction. They have been around for as long as I can remember, and sell every kind of product you could think of.

So with that being said, does IKEA produce good mattress toppers?

Well… there is only one way to find out!

The first thing I want to mention about this topper is that it is made of memory foam, which is a very common material used in the construction of most toppers. Memory foam toppers are great because they are very comfortable and supportive to sleep on.

If you have ever slept on a memory foam mattress or topper before, then you would know how it feels to have the memory foam contour to the shape of your body as you lay back on it. This is a very distinct characteristic of memory foam that is hard to be emulated. It is for this reason that memory foam a personal favorite of mine when shopping for something to sleep on.

If you have read any of our previous reviews then you would already know that I am a massive fan of memory foam toppers.

When you first receive the product you will notice that the topper has been rolled up, which makes transportation of the product incredibly easy. Once the topper is out of the packaging you can simply unroll it to see the full length of the product.

The packaging that the topper comes has these dimensions: 73 ¾  x 9 ¾ (L x D), and weighs in at roughly 33 lb 1 oz (for those of you who are curious!).

One thing to remember though is that when you are dealing with memory foam products you will need to let it sit out for a while to air out. Memory foam products tend to have a chemical smell associated with them when they are first received.

It is a good idea to let the topper sit out for at least 72 hours (3 days) before you start using the product. After 72 hours the smell should have subsided to a level that will not be noticeable anymore.

IKEA even suggest that you should leave the topper out in an area with a lot of circulation for the full 72-hour duration.

If you are familiar with memory foam then you will know that this material tends to respond to the temperature around it. This means that if it is cold then the memory foam will get harder. The opposite also occurs, when it is hot the memory foam will tend to get quite a bit softer.

This is not really a big deal, but it is good to know in case it catches you off guard!

Machine Washable

If you plan on washing the IKEA TANANGER Mattress Topper then you can do so by removing the removable cover from around the topper and placing it in the wash. There are a few things you should not do with the cover though, which are:

• DO NOT bleach
• DO NOT dry clean
• DO NOT iron
• DO NOT tumble dry

If you follow these instructions then you should be fine.

When the cover is in the washing machine you will want to wash it on a very hot setting while performing a normal cycle. It doesn’t get much easier than that, does it?

What Do Customers Online Think?

We have taken a look at what some of their customers have said about the mattress topper. For this section, we will be looking at the reviews posted on IKEA as that is the only source of customers reviews currently available.

At the time of writing this review, the IKEA TANANGER Mattress Topper is currently sitting at 4.3 stars out of 5. This is a pretty good score, although there have only been just over 50 people who have voiced their opinion (so keep that in mind!).

Many customers have commented on how comfortable the topper is. In addition to this, some of these customers also said that it was worth the price they paid for the topper.

Overall, it seems that a large majority of customers are satisfied with their purchase.

In saying that though, there were a few people thought that the topper did not feel that comfortable. This could possibly be due to these customers not being used to memory foam toppers, as they take a while to get used to if you have not slept on one before.

Regardless though, it seems that this topper is quite a big hit online, which means that you should feel comfortable trying it out for yourself.

Final Thoughts

Well… there you have it! We have gone and covered everything you need to know about this product (like we said we would!).

Now it is time to give you our final thoughts on the IKEA TANANGER Mattress Topper.

First and foremost you have to realize that this is an IKEA topper. You should not expect an IKEA product to be better than something coming from a well-known topper brand. It just doesn’t happen.

I feel like there are plenty of better options that you could choose from if you are looking for a new topper to add some comfort and support to your mattress.

Overall, the IKEA TANANGER Mattress Topper is a very stock-standard topper that will do its job, but it won’t do much more than that. Memory foam toppers have a tendency to overheat when they do not use gel-infused memory foam, which this topper does not. So just beware of this topper getting too hot during those hotter months of the year.

If you are looking for a simple topper that does what it says it will do (and not much more) then check out this one.
