BullRest Travel Pillow Review

How It All Started...

The BullRest Travel Pillow initially started through a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2015. The campaign ran for 35 days between November 10th and December 15th of that year.

At the end of the campaign the BullRest had received 2,001 backers with $168,585 pledged towards the project. This was over 300% of their original goal, which was a massive success for the team.

BullRest Travel Pillow Backers

The Kickstarter campaign was originally created by Sean O’mera (Founder/President) and Glenn Maddocks (Co-founder/CEO) who now had the task of delivering on the product they had developed.

Before their Kickstarter campaign the BullRest had been in development for over a year in order to find the right solution for their problem. They had teamed up with MindFlow Design who took their sketches and turned their product into a reality.

Now that it has been several years since the KickStarter the question has to be asked, does the BullRest live up to the hype surrounding it?

Let’s go ahead and check out some of the features of the product!

The Pillow

Let me start off by saying that the BullRest isn’t your typical travel pillow, which is evident from its slogan:

The Travel Pillow Reinvented

Interestingly enough, the BullRest was actually named after the animal with the strongest neck – the bull.

BullRest Travel Pillow Features

As you can tell, the BullRest has quite a unique design. To be honest, I have not seen any other travel pillows that look even remotely close to this pillow, which is not a bad thing if it does what it is intended to do.

The pillow features a wide-mouth vent at the back, which promotes air flow and stops your neck from getting too hot.  Both males and females are said to benefit from using the Bullrest.

There are 4 different colours that you can choose from: blue, gray, orange, yellow. It doesn’t matter what you are into you will find a colour you like.

In general it can be quite hard to fit most travel pillows inside your carry-on bag. Thankfully the BullRest aims to solve this problem.

The pillow comes in at a mere 183 x 121 x 127 mm in size and weighs close to 193g (6.8 oz), which is definitely small enough to fit inside most standard bags.

In fact, the BullRest is around 80% smaller than most typical travel pillows.

It is easy enough to store the BullRest away inside the travel pouch that comes with the product. The travel pouch can easily attach to the outside of your bag if you do not have enough room inside. This makes transportation of the pillow much easier.

The BullRest aims to support the cervical spine (C1-C7) by keeping it in proper alignment while you sleep.

Apparently the BullRest has had input from medical engineers during its design, so with that being said, you should expect the pillow to be very ergonomically-friendly.

There is only one size associated with the BullRest as it has a one-size-fits-most design. The pillow uses memory foam to ensure the highest amount of comfort when being used. They say that if a traditional travel pillow fits you, then so will the BullRest.

Another thing is that the BullRest is made in the United States. The team behind the pillow believe that this is a very good thing as they can monitor the production process of the product, and make sure it holds up to their high standards.

Once the pillow has had some use then you can then easily clean it with a wash cloth. Just take the wash cloth and use it to wipe the outer material of the pillow to remove any dirt that may be present. This will ensure a nice clean pillow to rest your neck on.

What Do Customers Think of the BullRest?

After reading through countless feedback from customers who have bought the product, I can say that the pillow has not been very well received at all.

Many customers have complained about how uncomfortable the BullRest is to use. I would personally be very upset if I was a backer and found out that the pillow was not very comfortable to sleep on.

Since then the guys behind the BullRest have claimed that a newer version has been designed, which is known as the BullBird Travel Pillow. The BullBird has been tested by thousands of travellers apparently, so we will have to see how it compares to the BullRest.

I have not seen any feedback on the newer design so I cannot comment on this.

In addition to being uncomfortable, customers have also complained about the BullRest pushing their neck too far forward. Not only does this sound uncomfortable, but this could also be a potential health concern.

Many customers have also complained that they have not received the product, or it has taken a lot longer to arrive than expected. Some of these customers have also messaged the manufacturer and received a late reply or no reply at all. This is very disappointing to hear from the team behind the BullRest.

Final Thoughts

There is no question that the BullRest is an incredibly good looking pillow, but this is really the only thing going for it sadly.

One of the most important factors associated with a travel pillow is its comfort level. If it doesn’t feel comfortable then no one will use it, regardless of its health benefits.

Hopefully they will improve on their original design with their next release known as the BullBird.

The BullBird Travel Pillow is set to be released in November of 2018, which is only just around the corner. They have supposedly made the BullBird feel much more comfortable, work better with airline seats, and introduced an intergrated strap system into the design.

Only time will tell how the BullBird holds up compared to the BullRest, but for now I definitely think you should steer away from the original product. You are much better going with something like the BCOZZY Travel Pillow, which is a top selling travel pillow on Amazon that is worth every cent.

To summarise this article in one sentence: DO NOT buy the BullRest Travel Pillow.

  1. this is an absurd review — have you even used the Bullbird? What the heck??! Works great for me and is completely comfortable.

  2. This pillow actually saved my neck and I use it every day when working on my laptop computer in a reclined position – not just when I travel. Since I discovered it a few years ago I no longer have pain in my neck. I can’t say enough good things about this pillow, really. I recommend it to everyone who is planning travel and have given it as gifts.
